Who Am I To Feel So Free?
In this Interdisciplinary course we will look at the interplay between contemporary art and pop culture, (standup comedy, film, writing, and music). We will track how ideas move through our culture, consider what the goals of appropriation are, and study specific contemporary projects as examples. This course included studio, lecture, discussion, field trips, visiting artists and culminates in a group show of student work at UMASS Amherst's Herter Gallery.

Some of the projects discussed are: JAY Z’s Picasso Baby
Mark Bradford’s Spiderman
and, (as collaged above) the band MEN’s music video for
Who Am I To Feel So Free based on the painting
Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, an oil painting by Caspar David Friedrich.
